The 32nd Plant and Animal Genome science conference took place in San Diego from 10-15 January 2025. This conference is recognized as one of the largest gatherings in biology research, attracting approximately 2400 participants from 66 countries. It featured hundreds of scientific sessions and exhibitions on the latest advancements in various fields. These sessions include presentations and discussions on the genetic diversities of various plants, innovative breeding strategies, bioinformatic tools, and applications of genomics in agriculture and conservation.

As representative from the Chair of Biochemistry, Dr. Mercedes Thieme and two of our PhD students Julia Eydam and Darren Yeo participated in the conference to discuss their latest results and engage in interesting conversations with experts of various fields.

Dr. Mercedes Thieme presented in the Breedbase workshop the web-based breeding management and analysis platform CASSbase, which is a specialized instance of Breedbase tailored to support transgenic breeding. Julia Eydam and Darren Yeo attended a poster session where they presented the latest analyses on the trade-off relationship between tuber yield and immunity. These observations help us understand the molecular mechanism behind tuber development and how it affects other aspects of the potato plants such as immune responses against pathogens.

Overall, it was a successful conference with many fruitful discussions among researchers from all over the world.
