The Plant2030 status seminar took place in Potsdam from 5 – 7 March this year. However, what is Plant2030? Plant2030 accompanies all programs in the field of applied plant research that are funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Germany.

The Chair of Biochemistry is involved in the current funding program on ‘Epigenetics – Opportunities for Plant Research’. Together with partners from RLP AgroScience GmbH and Solana Research GmbH, the aim of the EpiPotato project is to develop heat-tolerant potato varieties using epigenetic approaches for sustainable potato production in times of climate change.

During the conference, there were various keynote speeches, as well as presentations and posters from the individual sub-projects funded by various programs. In the evenings, workshops for PhD students and young postdocs took place. The aim of this year’s workshop was to clearly summarize one’s own research in a few sentences and to address this to an unusual audience, such as children or students.

Prof. Dr. Uwe Sonnewald gave a talk about the EpiPotato project’s research results, while the two PhD students Julia Eydam and Darren Yeo presented their recent findings in the form of posters.

Like every year, it was a successful and enjoyable meeting for plant scientists, with many interesting talks and discussions.
